Original - 1963 to 1969

Function: The Air Force planned for the MOL program to use an Earth-orbiting space station to perform top-secret reconnaissance missions on various Earth targets. Using a Gemini Launch System, the MOL Space Station was designed to orbit the Earth for 30 days before the crew would return to Earth aboard the Gemini Capsule. The MOL program was canceled in July of 1969 as it became apparent that unmanned satellites could better perform space-to-Earth observation.
