Space Shuttle as Art

During the 50th anniversary celebration of NASA in 2008, ITT Corporation participated in a public art exhibit program at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida called "Shuttles Orbiting the Space Coast." This work of art was one of 100 unique Shuttle designs commissioned by the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation as a fundraiser, and ITT Exelis was a leading sponsor of the program. The company's contribution, displayed here, evokes themes honoring Leonardo da Vinci, the 16th Century master of art and science who was among the earliest to consider solving the engineering problems of human flight.
